Counselling & Therapy
YCSN have the capacity to provide support to young people through a team of volunteers from our HaringeySaysNo branch. This is an area that we are keen to expand.
YCSN aim to provide early intervention as well as address the mental health needs of current ‘active’ gang affiliated youth where possible, accepting referrals through word of mouth and borough based organisations.
Your City Says No CIC will not attach conditions to receiving psychological support. Our practitioners believe that building a supportive therapeutic relationship is a vital step to begin healing and accepting the possibility of change.
Our Counselling Psychologist is qualified to deliver Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) including CBT specifically for trauma, which addresses thoughts, behaviours, feelings and bodily sensations. Our YCSN lead works integratively, with a focus on attachment and the therapeutic relationship which is vital for a successful intervention with complex cases. Our lead has a particular interests in working with young people involved in serious youth violence, having trained at Feltham YOI for 2 years. She also specialises in the dynamics of domestic violence and relational abuse.

YCSN have experienced having to relocate therefore are able to work with young people and families that find themselves in this situation. YCSN have been able to support with applications to councils, moving, providing essential items and also follow up support. This is an important part of what we do because it often enables a young person and family to get the much needed fresh start that they need.
Through personal experiences and loss, YCSN have the ability to be a listening ear to others who have experienced bereavement through murder or manslaughter. We can support parents or other affect by a loss by providing empathy and giving direction to partnership organisations that can offer professional support. After a bereavement it can be very difficult to manage everything that needs to be done, e.g. Investigations, Trials, Funerals and Memorials. We have the passion and experience to offer short term or long term support.
Young people who have experienced Trauma through Serious Youth Violence and Murder can experience huge difficulties when returning to Main Stream Education. Through experiences of young people diagnosed with PTSD, we are able to offer support to schools and parents who are having difficulties supporting their young people.
